About Entropy Analysis

What is Entropy?

Entropy measures the randomness or unpredictability of data. In cryptography, higher entropy means more secure data. Shannon entropy quantifies the average information content in a message.

Entropy Levels

  • Very High (90%+): Excellent randomness, suitable for cryptography
  • High (70-90%): Good randomness, generally secure
  • Medium (50-70%): Moderate randomness, may need improvement
  • Low (30-50%): Poor randomness, not suitable for security
  • Very Low (<30%): Very predictable, avoid for security

Applications

  • • Password strength assessment
  • • Random number generator evaluation
  • • Cryptographic key analysis
  • • Data compression efficiency
  • • Information theory research
